Tonight the city of Birmingham will be kicking off the holiday season with a tree lighting in Shain Park, on Merrill Street in the downtown district. The festivities will commence at 6PM.
Immediately following the tree lighting, Santa’s workshop will open to welcome children. Photos with Santa can be a fun activity for you and your children.
Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families. Return home safely if you are at Grammas House.
We had a great meeting last night regarding a Special Assessment District to finance road resurfacing throughout most of Westchester Village. It was well attended, and the Board would like to thank all of you who showed up! For those who couldn’t make it, here are the Meeting Minutes.
With us at the meeting were representatives from Bloomfield Township. They helped to explain the process for financing road resurfacing through the Township. (Thanks again, Leo and crew…) We had hoped to have someone from the County as well, but he was a late scratch. Still, it seemed to be full of great questions and answers. Residents shared their knowledge and concerns.
The Township had a couple handouts for us. The first shows the steps for Creating an SAD and includes the estimated costs for our specific SAD. The second includes Frequently Asked Questions that others have asked about these types of projects. We should all become familiar with both. An unofficial show of hands was overwhelmingly in favor of accepting the Township’s offer in terms of financing the project. But, there is still much more to do.
A Road Resurfacing Committee has been organized to begin the task of determining the petition, and then gathering the signatures of those in favor. More information will follow as it becomes available.
A special meeting for the homeowners association will be held next Wednesday, November 16th at 7:30PM at the Detroit Country Day Lower School (just east of the Westbourne entrance to our neighborhoods).
As per our bylaws, special meetings are single topic only. In this case, we will be discussing the options we have for road resurfacing – through the county and township. Technically, the resurfacing would be done by the same companies regardless. It is the financing of the resurfacing that would be our option to choose.
We expect to have speakers from Bloomfield Township to explain the procedure. We’d like to see you there!
